Senior Tennis Ace Stomps Young Hotshot!

Just have to give some acknowledgement to my friend Lucille Barnard. Lucille is an avid tennis player who runs a tennis group which plays at the Robinswood tennis courts in Bellevue. A few years ago she mentioned that she had a goal of playing tennis in the senior Olympics. Last week I learned that she had, in fact, taken a silver in tennis at the Washington State Official Olympic Senior Games. Well, that was fantastic enough, but then this week she delighted her legions of fans with the following story that I would like to share with you, hoping that it will provide some inspiration for those of you (you, not moi) who are over 60:

Hi girlfriends.....last night I won another tennis tournament in Bellevue.  We beat the #1 seed in the tournament.  He is about 25 years old and so was his partner.  He is very strong and is going to the USTA Nationals...no one thought we would beat them. I looked up his record and he has not lost a match until last night.  We had to play two other matches to get to the finals, one was relatively easy, the other was another battle. Three sets and a tie breaker.  This one was three sets and two tie breakers and lasted three hours long.  It was a war on the court and we won it.  My 58 year old partner and this old lady took it to them.......the summer of 2006 has been a very memorable one for me.

Way to go, Lucille!!!

P.S. Lucille has a thriving computerized embroidery business in old Redmond called A Custom Stitch! Check it out!
